Celebration of Losar, the Tibetan New Year - Nalandabodhi Philadelphia

Celebration of Losar, the Tibetan New Year

Mon., February 24, 2020
All Day

Losar, the Tibetan New Year,  is fast approaching. The Earth Sow is making way for the Iron Mouse.

And with the Iron Mouse comes a new program! We are adding a Children’s Program to this year’s celebration. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends are encouraged to invite their young companions to the celebration.

This is a time to start with a new outlook as we set the tone for the coming year.

“Lo” means “year” or “age,” and “sar” means “fresh” or “new.” It is a time to come together as a sangha, share our heartfelt aspirations, mark transitions in leadership roles, and honor our teachers.

Kids Losar Celebration

In celebration of the Year of the Mouse, children may make “mouse masks” and listen to storyteller Lynn Conrad Marvet  share a folk tale, “The Strongest Person in the World,” about a family of mice.

As part of the merriment, we also will play games, sing songs and share a snack together. The children will be invited to join in the final minutes of the adult ceremony by placing a flower on the alter with their parents.

Please register for the children’s program HERE.
