Members and friends of Nalandabodhi are invited to a July 4 celebration at Nalanda West on the paramita of generosity.
The gathering will begin at 3 p.m. with a talk by Mitra Tyler Dewar, then continue into the evening with an alcohol-free, potluck BBQ.
Mahayana Buddhism’s teachings and practices all are included within the six paramitas, or six transcendent virtues. Following the encouragement of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, we honor the study and practice of the six paramitas by devoting one calendar month to each paramita, making two sets of six each year. July is the month of generosity.
This year we will combine the celebrating spirit of Independence Day with a celebration of generosity and giving.
Please join us by bringing an item (or more!) of food or clothing to donate. Your kind generosity will be donated to Northwest Harvest (a hunger relief organization), Camp Second Chance (a homeless encampment) and other charities.
Also please bring contributions of food and non-alcoholic beverages for the potluck BBQ.
Schedule:
3-3:45 p.m. – talk by Mitra Tyler Dewar: “The Paramita of Generosity”
3:45-4 p.m. – viewing and rejoicing in the gifts brought by participants (gifts can be given anonymously or otherwise)
4 p.m. onward – Potluck BBQ. This will be an alcohol-free event; please bring non-alcoholic beverages only.
Please RSVP to Jay Sacks, 253-228-7249 or sacksjg@comcast.net
Jay also may be contacted for more information or for volunteer offerings.
