1st Sunday of each month
11:00 am – 12:00 noon (following 10:00 am meditation)

In the Nalandabodhi Path of Study, our studies of selflessness in the Hinayana are the jumping off point for understanding Mahayana selflessness, which broadens the notion beyond personal selflessness into the vastness of mahashunyata, or the “great emptiness.” The Mahayana Courses, newly revised, continue. In the Mahayana teachings we look at the possibility of generating limitless compassion, the unbounded intention to help all sentient beings, known in Sanskrit as bodhichitta.

Kindling the Spark of Awakeningthe second course in the Mahayana series, includes the topics The Two Main Avenues to Bodhicitta; Traveling from Planet Ego to the Universe of Altruism: The Eight Verses on Mind Training; The Seven Points of Mind Training; and The Meditation of Sending and Taking (Tonglen).

This class is open to all, but first completing Intro to Buddhism (also currently being offered) is recommended. Joining in progress is an option. Please contact if you’d like to register.

The text for this class can be purchased at the Nalanda Store.  Suggested donation is $10 per class to help with rent and other expenses, but please do not let lack of funds be a barrier to enrolling! Contact Ellen at if you have questions or for help with affordability of materials.
