Introduction to Buddhism in Philadelphia

Studying Buddhism in Philadelphia!

We recently began our latest round of the Nalandabodhi Study Path with the Introduction to Buddhism course in Philadelphia. The Nalandabodhi Introduction to Buddhism course explores the basic principles of Buddhism and lays the foundation for deeper studies, including being introduced to the views of the different philosophical schools of the Buddhist tradition. The Introduction to Buddhism course is a study of four texts, each of which consists of four or five classes. The texts are:

  • The Life of the Buddha and the Spiritual Journey (INT 101)
  • Traveling from Confusion to Original Sanity (INT 102)
  • Karma, Rebirth, and Selflessness (INT 103)
  • The Four Foundations of Mindfulness (INT 104)
The Nalandabodhi Path of Study courses make up one part of the three-part Nalandabodhi Path designed and supervised by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. Taken together with the Path of Meditation and the Path of Mindful Activity, the Path of Study courses give one a thorough training in the philosophical and meditative disciplines of the Kagyu and Nyingma Buddhist traditions, as well as practical instruction for applying one’s studies and meditation experience to one’s daily life.
“We’re cultivating our intelligence as opposed to expanding or upgrading its contents. It’s like brightening a room by putting a higher-watt lightbulb in a lamp. Suddenly we can see everything in the room much more clearly.”  — Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche
These classes are open to all and are tution free.  Those interested in joining can come regularly or on a drop-in basis. For a more detailed outline of the Introduction to Buddhism course and a complete list of all course materials, please contact us at
