Acharya Lhakpa Tshering – An Interview

An Interview with our East Coast Resident Acharya

Acharya Lhakpa Tshering is greatly loved by those of us studying and practicing in Nalandabodhi Philadelphia, New York, and Connecticut sanghas. Acharya frequently visits and teaches the community here in Philadelphia. Recently we interviewed Acharya about what makes the Nalandabodhi Courses, developed by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, unique and different. +about Acharya Lhakpa

You’ve been teaching Nalandabodhi students for a few years now. As you’ve watched Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche teaching students and leading his sangha in the West, is there anything that strikes you as being unique to Rinpoche’s strategy or style?

When I first came here and saw the Nalandabodhi Study courses, and how Ponlop Rinpoche had outlined all the teachings, I was very impressed — Rinpoche had done it in a very skillful way. When Rinpoche put together the Study courses, he had designed them for students living and working in a Western lifestyle with a 9-5 job.

I had studied for nine years in the monastery. And when I saw the courses Rinpoche had developed, I was amazed to see the students studying all of the same teachings I had studied, in a matter of just one year! I was really amazed to see how Rinpoche had put his heart and mind into creating this wonderful way for Western students to learn the Buddhist teachings.

What would you tell someone who is just getting interested in Buddhism?

I would say start with meditation, and study. First you have to collect the information, then you study it. And based on those studies, you practice meditation. +Path of Meditation
